Chest Drains
   Chest Drain program suite
Programs on insertion and management of chest drains for doctors and nurses are now available.

There are two components to each program:
  • online education
  • simulation training in your organisation.

These do not replace the need for supervision/observation of these procedures in patients prior to independent practice.

Attend simulation training

Prior to attending simulation training participants must complete the online assessment quiz and achieve a pass mark of 15/16. To prepare for the quiz, participants are encouraged to complete these units from the online education program:

  • Anatomy refresher (INA-5067)
  • Assessing risk and minimising complications in chest tube insertion (INA-5068)
  • Insertion of a large bore chest tube by blunt dissection in adults (ILS-5070)
         and/or
  • Insertion of a small bore catheter by Seldinger technique in adults (RNO-5060)
