Skills Development Centre

The Queensland Health Skills Development Centre is a state wide resource, with affiliate centres planned in Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Mackay, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg and Roma. It’s function is to improve patient outcomes in Queensland through a multi-disciplinary educational facility of international standard that specialises in the development, application and assessment of clinical procedural skills and communication, using blended learning modalities. Modalities include use of part task trainers, simulation within synthetic environments and e-learning programmes.

The focus is on both non technical (communication, situational awareness and team work) and clinical skills, for individuals and multi-disciplinary teams. Educational activities are provided state wide, via local courses, distributed programmes and distance education, with the Skills Development Centre supporting the ongoing development of affiliate skills centres and pocket centres around the state.

Programmes are delivered by a large multi disciplinary teaching faculty who work with simulation co-ordinators to provide evidence based teaching and training, with the support of an administration team. The Centre evaluates the quality of its programs including individual learning application in the workplace and improved outcomes.
